Although both gestures and signs are same the main difference is speech. sign language is used instead of speaking while gestures are used while speaking. Emblems on the other hand are non-verbal signals such as “thumbs up” (= things are good) that function like fixed phrases with conventional interpretations.
A standard language is a language variety that has undergone substantial codification of grammar and usage, and is employed by a population for public communication.
It is not unusual to find aspects of language identified as characteristic features of African
American culture or European culture or Japanese culture. This approach to the study of language originates in the work of anthropologists who have used language as a source of information in the general study of “culture.”
